Corsets Vs Contraptions
Today is International Women’s Day and it made me ponder about the progress women have made since liberation. The aspect that I focused on was fashion and how it has evolved over the many generations, specifically Corsets Vs Footwear.
Women have progressed from wearing corsets, which according to Wikipedia:
‘A corset is a garment worn to hold and shape the torso into a desired shape for aesthetic or medical purposes‘
….To what I’m really not sure. Observe the modern day contraptions a.k.a boots, pumps or shoes or ‘feet torture devices’.
#4 Definitely aesthetic, I give-up.
#3 Aptly name ‘The Highness’ – medical warning: you may trip & break something invaluable /˚,˚\
#2 Shape: What’s that?
#1 Torso, kiss yours goodbye ≧☉_☉≦
Before we discount these contraptions as a designer ‘thing’, let me clarify by saying that these are being sold in department stores everywhere.
Is this really fashion or another way of oppression & objectification of women?
In the Victorian era, women wore corsets and were treated like objects & trophies that were traded like commodity. In the 21st century, these shoes represent the same symbolism that markets these under the guise of being fashionable & as objects of attraction to the opposite sex.
Hear ye, all you fellow women, boycott these contraptions & learn to love your feet. After all, you’re lucky to have been born with a pair , that which are irreplaceable. (>‿◠)✌
