Fashionista’s Prêt-à-Portea in London
Know an awesome way to combine the High Tea with Fashion? O….Yes! I highly recommend experiencing this delectable treat in London. It’s a must-do for every fashionista, truly!
Traditionally, food & fashion are like oil & water – never mingling or mixing So, I was pretty apprehensive about spending £39.00 on tea But, after this experience, I say that there are some unexplored synergies between food & fashion. They’re about art, design, taste & aesthetics. Perfect Marriage, no?!
The Berkeley London offers a Designer afternoon tea called the Prêt-à-Portea. It’s inspired by the themes & colors of the fashion world. The menu is seasonal, as-is fashion, and changes every few months. I was there for the Autumn/Winter 2012-2013.
There is a dress code for the Caramel Room – ‘Elegant smart casual’. So, there I was & immediately they made me feel special. There was an elengant menu & table setting with my name on a shoe, fun!
The menu was long, detailed & mind-blowing. It took me a few minutes to read & assimilate the following:
First to arrive were relatively blah-looking ‘tea’ sandwiches — they were amazing!! I chose the heavenly Chocolate Mint Truffle tea…was there for high tea after all!
TaDAAA! The Pièce de résistance. Per the restaurant, the tea experience is “a mouth-watering selection of miniature savoury skewers, taster spoons, elegant canapés and tea sandwiches.”
It’s a feast for the all five senses and the spirit!
Below are some close-ups of the highly detailed creation of elegant canapés & pastries. It’s pure art and fashion.
So, let’s review them in detail & compare with the fashionista menu, shall we? See if you can spot them….!
Clockwise: YSL, Prada, Burberry, Manolo and Valli in the middle!!
Truly a piece of art, this vision of the beautiful dress by Giambattista Valli requires a special mention. My favorite & I couldn’t bring myself to eat it. Eventually I did & it was very tasty!
Obviously, I couldn’t finish them all, so I bagged it, literally!!!
